Hi, I noticed that in the Starship Blue Book, no ship design has more than 6 Fighter Bays, perhaps on purpose because there only 6 adjacent hex-tiles.

However, it is possible to design a ship with more than 6 fighter bays in the construction calculator.

Would this kind of thing be allowed? If it launched 7 fighter squadrons at once, would one fighter sq. be placed one tile further than the initial 6 squadrons, so it is as close to adjacent as possible?

It is certainly possible to have a ship with more than 6 bays, although because of the rules you wouldn't be able to launch more than 6 fighters per turn. Fighters can only be launched into an adjacent hex. In a real game, you may be able to launch even fewer than 6, because often a fleet is close together, limiting the open spaces to only 3 or 4.

I can see it might be useful in some circumstances to have more than 6 bays, because you could recover a lot of fighters if you needed to. However, this is probably not worth the extra cost.
